Loon Rescues

The Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation conducts rescues to save loons in distress. This can occur when they are tangled in fishing line, when they are trapped on a lake by a quick ice in, or when they come down on land. In most cases, we are able to transport them to a safer place for release, but occasionally we take them to a wildlife rehabilitator to provide further care.

We are grateful to the staff of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the volunteers of North Country Wild Care for their assistance in responding to loons in need of rescue.

Please provide the lake name and the county where it is located, and a description of what is wrong with the loon. Emailing us a photo (videos are better!) of the loon you are concerned about is extremely helpful. Your name and contact information are also appreciated.
